Maharashtra Legislative Council Chairman Prof. Ram Shinde has directed the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to immediately ensure an adequate water supply to the newly merged villages within its limits. This directive came during a meeting held today, June 10, 2025, in response to a “Calling Attention Motion” raised by Legislative Council Member MLC Yogesh Tilekar during the 2025 budget session.

Despite the PMC’s 24×7 water supply scheme, launched in 2018 to ensure proper water distribution across the city, areas like Katraj, Kondhwa, Yewalewadi, and Pisoli are still experiencing an insufficient supply. This severe issue has led to public protests in many parts of the city due to inadequate water provision.

MLC Yogesh Tilekar had highlighted this critical issue during the budget session, and following his demand, the Chairman had assured a meeting would be held in his chamber.

During today’s meeting, attendees included Legislative Council Member MLC Yogesh Tilekar, Legislature Secretary (3) Dr. Vilas Athawale, Pune Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram (via video conferencing), Additional Municipal Commissioner Omprakash Diwate, and Deputy Secretary Urban Development Priyanka Chapwale.

Discussions also centered on the need for a new water supply agreement for the 34 newly added villages. The current agreement provides PMC with 14 TMC of water. However, there’s a push to secure 21 TMC of water for these new areas when planning the water supply scheme. Following points raised by MLA Yogesh Tilekar, Chairman Shinde reiterated the need for serious planning to resolve the water scarcity issue as quickly as possible, emphasizing that the 2018 water supply scheme remains inadequate.
