Pune: Maharashtra Women’s Commission Demands Immediate Report On Kondhwa Rape Case; Stresses Swift Police Action
Pune, July 4, 2025: The Maharashtra State Women’s Commission has taken suo motu cognizance of the Kondhwa rape case and has sought an immediate report from Pune City Police, urging them to expedite the investigation and ensure the accused is arrested without delay.
In a letter addressed to the Pune Police Commissioner, the Commission expressed deep concern over media reports stating that a woman in Kondhwa was sexually assaulted in her apartment after a man posing as a courier delivery agent sprayed a chemical on her face to incapacitate her.
The Commission, invoking its powers under Sections 10(1)(f)(a) and 10(2) of the Maharashtra State Women’s Commission Act, 1993, has directed police officials to carry out a thorough investigation, including examining CCTV footage from the housing society and reviewing security lapses that may have facilitated the crime.
“The incident is of a serious nature and demands urgent attention. A rapid search operation must be launched to trace the accused. Any delay in action is unacceptable,” the Commission stated. It also confirmed that the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 5) has already been contacted telephonically to ensure immediate compliance with the directives.
The Commission has instructed police officers to submit a factual report under Sections 12(2) and 12(3) of the Act to its office via email ([email protected]) at the earliest.
This intervention comes as Pune Police continues an intensive manhunt for the suspect, with multiple teams deployed to track him down.
