The Maharashtra Real Estate Regulatory Authority (MahaRERA) has resolved over 1,749 disputes between homebuyers and developers through its 52 Conciliation Forums, addressing 32% of the 5,958 complaints filed. Initially launched in Mumbai and Pune, these forums are now expanding to other regions across the state, offering a faster, amicable resolution process.

MahaRERA’s Conciliation Forums have proven effective, helping both parties reach mutually agreed-upon settlements. States such as Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana have adopted similar initiatives, with more states in discussions with MahaRERA to replicate the model.

MahaRERA Chairman Manoj Saunik highlighted that complainants are offered the option of resolving disputes through the Conciliation Forum during the first hearing, provided both parties agree. Most cases are settled within 60 days, with a maximum resolution period of 90 days in exceptional cases. If a resolution cannot be reached, complainants retain the right to return to MahaRERA for further action.

Initially limited to Mumbai and Pune, MahaRERA’s forums are now being established in Nashik, Nagpur, Thane, Kalyan, Navi Mumbai, Palghar, Raigad, Vasai, and Mira Road. So far, Mumbai has resolved 562 complaints, Pune 530, Thane 201, and other regions following suit, showcasing the growing impact of the initiative across Maharashtra.
