Pune Man Duped By Cousin, Made Co-Applicant In Rs 13 Lakh Car Loan
A 41-year-old real estate businessman from Pimpri, Pune, was left stunned when he discovered that his cousin had forged his signature and documents to make him a co-applicant in a Rs 13 lakh car loan. The loan was taken by the cousin’s girlfriend to purchase a sports utility vehicle (SUV).
According to the police, the complainant’s cousin had requested him to be a guarantor for his girlfriend’s loan in 2018, but the complainant had refused. However, the cousin went ahead and used the complainant’s name, signature, and documents to obtain the loan.
The cousin and his girlfriend initially paid the equated monthly installments (EMIs), but later stopped repaying the loan. The complainant discovered the fraud when he tried to buy a cellphone handset on loan in 2019, but was refused due to his poor Cibil score.
“We have registered a case against cousin and his girlfriend and are investigating the matter. We have asked the victim to submit all the necessary documents for further investigation. We will also be inquiring into the role of the showroom where the loan was sanctioned,” said Senior Police Inspector Anil Vibhute of the Bavdhan police station while speaking with Pune Pulse.
