In the wake of the tragic death of 24-year-old Vaishnavi Hagawane, members of the Maratha community gathered in Pune to discuss steps toward internal reform and greater accountability. The meeting, attended by a large number of community leaders, elders, and youth, concluded with the adoption of a new social code of conduct aimed at preventing similar incidents and fostering social responsibility.

The Vaishnavi Hagawane case, which has sparked widespread public outrage and protests across Maharashtra, brought to the forefront critical issues surrounding women’s safety, domestic abuse, and dowry-related harassment. The community gathering served as a forum to collectively reflect on the case and seek constructive solutions.

During the meeting, speakers strongly condemned the circumstances of Vaishnavi’s death and emphasized the urgent need for justice. They also stressed the importance of preserving peace and strengthening ties both within the Maratha community and with society at large.

Among the resolutions passed were:

  • A call for ensuring the dignity and safety of women in every household.
  • A commitment to educating girls and encouraging their empowerment.
  • Full cooperation with law enforcement and judicial processes.
  • Promoting peaceful dialogue and unity among community members.

Community elders noted that the newly introduced code of conduct is intended to serve as a model for broader societal change. Social workers and women’s rights groups have praised the initiative, describing it as a bold and necessary move toward community-led reform.

“This is a turning point,” said one elder. “Our goal is to stand united against injustice and create a safer, more respectful society for all.”
