Temperature dips sharply across Pune district as clear skies bring chilly mornings. Residents advised to take precautions.

Pune’s minimum temperatures have taken a significant plunge over the past four days, with the National Defence Academy (NDA) area in Khadakwasla registering the season’s lowest temperature at 8.8 degrees Celsius on Saturday morning. Other areas in the district, including Haveli (9.3°C) and Malin (9.9°C), also recorded single-digit minimum temperatures.

At the Shivajinagar observatory, the official city temperature stood slightly higher at 10.1 degrees Celsius, yet it marked a sharp drop compared to earlier unseasonal warmth.

Why the Drop?

The sudden decline in temperatures can be attributed to clear skies and changing weather patterns. Just days ago, unseasonal rains had caused a temporary rise in Pune’s minimum temperatures to over 21 degrees Celsius, while the maximum temperatures had climbed beyond 35 degrees Celsius, momentarily diminishing the cold wave.

However, with clearer skies prevailing for the last four days, the mercury has been on a steady downward trajectory, reaching its coldest yet this season.

Outlook for the Coming Days

The Pune Observatory has predicted that the cold wave will continue for the next two days, with clear skies and light morning fog likely to persist. The minimum temperature has already dropped by 2-3 degrees Celsius in the last 24 hours, signaling a continuation of chilly conditions.

Residents are advised to take care and prepare for the ongoing cold spell, as the next few days remain critical.

Current Minimum Temperature Highlights

• NDA (Khadakwasla): 8.0°C (Lowest in Pune)

• Malin: 9.0°C

• Shivajinagar: 9.0°C

As winter tightens its grip, Pune’s fluctuating temperatures serve as a reminder to stay warm and take necessary precautions during this ongoing cold wave.
