PUNE: During Ganeshotsav, a considerable number of devotees flock to the central part of the city to partake in the festivities. To ensure their convenience, the Pune Metro extended its operating hours until midnight for Ganeshotsav, which has garnered an overwhelmingly positive response from the public. It is worth noting that the proposal to extend metro services until midnight for the final five days of Ganeshotsav was put forth by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar.

Throughout the Ganpati Visarjan period, Pune Metro services were operational until 2 am on both routes, spanning from PCMC to Civil Court and Vanaz to Ruby Hall Clinic. The availability of Metro services is expected to be crucial due to road closures in central areas of the city and the forecast of rain. Maha Metro officials have reported a favorable response to the extended operating hours in recent days. Additional personnel will be deployed at stations to manage passenger flow, and extra ticket windows will be opened if queues form.

While talking to Pune Pulse, Hemant Sonawane, Pune Metro’s Public Relations Officer, stated, “We received a positive response during Ganeshotsav as many people utilized the metro service for their travels. The highest ridership was recorded on September 28, which was the day of Visarjan, with 163,861 commuters and the highest revenue collection of Rs 2,558,691 on the same day. The total ridership during Ganeshotsav was recorded as 961,362, with a total revenue collection of Rs 14,071,055.”
