Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) is working on the Hinjawadi to Shivajinagar metro line 3 through Public-Private Partnership (PPP). Now, there are plans to extend this route from Shivajinagar to Loni Kalbhor on PPP basis. The project feasibility report in this regard has been submitted to PMRDA.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Rinaj Pathan, Chief Engineer, PMRDA, said “The Metro line is going to be extended till Loni Kalbhor. However, the government is yet to decided whether the extension should be done by either PMRDA or Maha Metro. We have got the feasibility report for the extension through our appointed consultant on PPP basis. Extensions of Shivajinagar to Loni Kalbhor, along with Pulgate to Swargate, are feasible on PPP basis. The proposal for the same will soon be sent to the state government after which the authority to execute the extension will be decided.”

Pune Metro project from Hinjawadi to Shivajinagar is being built with Tata Group. A project development plan was prepared for the expansion of this route. It is proposed to take this route from Shivajinagar to Loni Kalbhor. Along with this, Hadapsar to Saswad road and Race course to Swargate metro line are also proposed.

These metro lines are going to be 23 km in total. A consultancy firm was appointed by PMRDA to examine the feasibility of these routes. This organization has now submitted the feasibility report to PMRDA. It has been said that metro project on this route is possible on PPP basis.

In the Pune Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority (PUMTA) meeting, the Divisional Commissioner had directed that a single agency, either PMRDA or Maha Metro, should work on the metro line extension. He suggested PMRDA to appoint a consultant to examine the feasibility of doing this project through Public Private Partnership (PPP). Accordingly, PMRDA had taken steps to appoint a consultant to examine the economic feasibility of this route.
