Pune Metro stations mostly to see share-an-auto service soon 

In order to help commuters with last-mile connectivity, the share-an-auto program is probably going to be reinstated soon at a number of Metro stations.

The Wake Up Punekar forum arranged a discussion on issues regarding the auto rickshaw services at Pimpri Chinchwad and Pune Metro stations on Friday.

The group’s leader, Mohan Joshi, stated that participants in the meeting included autorickshaw union representatives and Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha Metro), who both indicated a willingness to restore these services and offer the assistance required to guarantee their continuous operation.

According to Mohan Joshi, the decision was made to relaunch the share-an-auto program at a few Metro stations for the initial phase. A survey to determine the priority stations will be conducted for this purpose beginning next week.

Following the Metro’s expansion to more than 20 stations, the Regional Transport Office (RTO) approved the share-an-auto service in August 2023.

Auto drivers haven’t responded well to the initiative, though, and you hardly ever see them actively working at any Metro stations.

According to Mohan Joshi, efforts are being made to revive the initiative aimed at alleviating the suffering of commuters. Auto union representatives brought up the issue of rickshaws not having enough room to stop at Metro stations. The forum will investigate this further. To assess the authorities’ progress, more meetings will be arranged.

Additionally, auto union representatives stated that they are prepared to talk about share-an-auto services with the traffic department and RTO.

Maha Metro officials promised to provide the necessary assistance. According to officials, work is already being done to enhance last-mile connectivity. The Ramwadi Metro station shuttle bus service to the airport has begun.
