Pune experienced a significant drop in temperature on Thursday, with the minimum temperature slipping to 9.5°C, marking the first time it fell into single digits since December 30 last year.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the lowest temperature in the district was recorded at the NDA station at 7.7°C, while Magarpatta recorded the highest minimum temperature within city limits at 16.2°C. The Shivajinagar observatory reported Pune’s minimum temperature at 9.5°C, with at least five other weather stations in the district also recording single-digit temperatures.

Data from Shivajinagar shows a sharp decline over the past three days, with temperatures dropping from 15.4°C on January 5 to 12.9°C on January 6 and further to 10.2°C on January 7.

Senior meteorologist SD Sanap of IMD Pune explained, “Cool northerly winds over Maharashtra have caused a noticeable drop in minimum temperatures. Pune has seen a sharp fall from around 15°C to 9°C over the last three to four days. Clear skies are expected over the next two to three days, allowing lower temperatures to persist. However, morning haze may occur due to moisture from westerly winds.”

Minimum Temperatures Recorded on January 8 (IMD):

  • Baramati: 9.8°C
  • Shivajinagar: 9.5°C
  • Pashan: 9.3°C
  • Malin: 8.7°C
  • Haveli: 8.2°C
  • NDA: 7.7°C

Residents felt the winter chill as Pune ushered in one of its coldest days in recent weeks.
