Pune, June 15, 2023 :  The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) protested outside Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) on Thursday, June 15 to raise concerns about the insufficient water supply in the city.

Sainath Sambhaji Babar, President, MNS Pune said, “There is water cut in the city on every Thursday. Hadapsar, Kondhwa, Mundhwa, Warje, Kothrud, Shivajinagar, Vadgaon Sheri, Wagholi, Aundh, Baner, Pashan, Karve Road, Deccan, Peth, Camp etc are suffering severely due to water cut. However, the officials of the water supply department of PMC are not giving concrete answers about the restoration of the 24×7 water supply. Hence, if we do not get any solution, then we will intensify the protest.”

Sunil Loyare, President, Shivajinagar Branch, MNS, Pune said, “Today, a lot of water pipelines in Pune have become defunct. No action is being taken to repair it. There are water shortage issues and the water that is supplied is contaminated. People receive water supply with only at night between 12 am to 1 am. As a result, people get insufficient sleep leading to health problems. Additionally, the water supply is hampered for two days straight as the PMC cuts the water supply on Thursday. On Wednesday, there is no water supply due to the alternate day water supply policy. Hence, it is causing a lot of inconvenience to the people. Hence, to confront the PMC, many of our ministers and workers have gathered here.”

Vanita Wagaskar, President, Women Wing, MNS Pune said, “In 2014, the PMC had promised Punekars that there will be 24X7 water supply. They increased the property tax because of it. Now, it has been almost 10 years, but nothing has happened. Every year during summer, there are water cuts. It takes 4 days for the water supply to get stable. The water that is supplied is dirty and contaminated. Water pipelines in various parts of the city are not properly functional. They are not repairing it either. That’s why we have staged the protest.”
