Pune: Mohamadwadi Undri Residents To Hold Candle Vigil Today
Residents of the Mohamadwadi–Undri area under the Mohamadwadi Undri Residents Welfare Development Foundation have announced a candlelight vigil on April 11, 2026, to pay tribute to two motorcyclists who recently lost their lives in separate accidents involving water tankers.
The vigil will be held at Raheja Vista Circle, near Tribeca High Street, at 5:30 pm, where residents will gather to mourn the deceased and demand stronger road safety measures.
Along with the tribute, residents are also seeking urgent intervention from the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), urging it to operationalise three overhead water tanks constructed opposite The Royale Heritage Mall in Mohamadwadi. According to them, these tanks have remained non-functional for nearly eight years due to the absence of a proper pipeline network in the area. They believe that activating this infrastructure would significantly reduce dependence on private water tankers, which frequently operate on local roads.
The residents have also raised concerns regarding tanker regulation, calling on the Traffic Police and Regional Transport Office (RTO) to ensure strict compliance with safety norms. They have demanded that water tankers be allowed on roads only if they have valid documentation, insurance, pollution certificates, and properly licensed drivers, in order to prevent further accidents and improve road safety in the area.
