Pune, January 29, 2025 – Mahavitaran has begun installing advanced Time of Day (TOD) meters for new electricity connections and replacing faulty or outdated meters at no cost to consumers. These new meters are not prepaid; they follow the existing postpaid billing system, ensuring no change in the current billing structure. The TOD meters allow customers to **track their electricity consumption in real time via mobile phones**, ensuring accurate billing.

To encourage efficient power usage, TOD-based tariffs will be implemented from April 2025, offering lower rates for electricity consumed between 9 AM and 5 PM. Mahavitaran has urged consumers to take advantage of this scheme by allowing the installation of TOD meters.

No Financial Burden on Consumers

The installation of these advanced meters is part of the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), funded by the central government. Consumers will not bear any additional costs, and there will be no impact on electricity tariffs. Mahavitaran will pay service providers in 120 installments over 10 years, ensuring that neither the company nor consumers face any financial burden.

Automated Meter Reading for Accurate Billing

The digital TOD meters will automatically record power usage eliminating errors caused by manual readings. Consumers can monitor their real-time electricity consumption on mobile devices, ensuring precise monthly billing and avoiding incorrect charges due to faulty readings.

Improving Power Infrastructure with Digital Meters

Additionally, 35,436 distribution transformers and 1,863 high-voltage lines in Pune are being equipped with digital meters. This will help engineers detect faults instantly, reducing power outage durations and preventing costly emergency electricity purchases during peak demand periods.

Mahavitaran assures that these advanced meters remain government-owned, and consumers should cooperate with the installation to benefit from more accurate billing and cost-saving tariff structures.
