Pune: Mahavitaran has urged people to be safe from electricity hazards while visiting public spaces during Ganeshotsav.

As per information from Mahavitaran, the public celebration of Vighnaharta Shri Ganesh is starting from Tuesday, September 19.

In the last three years, due to the COVID-19 crisis, the most awaited festival of Shri Ganesha was overshadowed in Maharashtra. But overcoming this crisis, everyone is looking forward to the arrival of Bappa with new energy and new hope.

As usual, preparations and preparations are going on vigorously. There is excitement everywhere.

The lighting works have been speeded up. Everyone is on guard to avoid any untoward incident even unintentionally in this Mangal atmosphere. But in the backdrop of monsoon, it is necessary to take full precautions regarding electrical safety during this festival.

Unintentional electrical accidents can occur if proper precautions are not taken. Therefore, it is necessary to give the highest priority to safety measures to protect the young and old from this invisible and conductive electricity. Temporary electricity connection for public festivals of all religions is being charged as per domestic tariff.

The power tariff has been kept low to ensure that official temporary power supply is taken for religious festivals because unauthorized power supply is taken from street lights, houses, or by putting equipments in the power system to celebrate religious festivals in public places can invite electrical accidents at any moment.

During Ganeshotsav, lakhs of devotees throng various places to seek his blessings. In such a crowded place, the power transmission system is absolutely safe and it is necessary to avoid the risk of electrical accidents.

The electrical set-up required for the mandap, lighting, scenery in Ganeshotsav should be done by the licensed contractors and the test report should also be taken after completion of the work.

The place where electric meters and other switchgears are installed should be kept free for maintenance and work by authorized persons.

It is also necessary to ensure that water does not leak on meters and switchgears. Only the amount of allowance approved by the Mahavitaran should be added to the set arrangement.

According to this addition, wires/cables of suitable capacity as well as MCB, and ELCB should also be used. Two separate and efficient earthing connections should be made in the arrangement.

If a generator is used, separate earthing must be added for body and neutral. It is essential to have separate neutral for power supply and generator during Ganeshotsav. If the generator is started when the power supply is off due to some reason, the current in the generator flows into the low voltage line due to a single neutral and it creates a possibility of a fatal accident.

Along with this, warning boards should be placed near meters, switchgears, electrical equipment, etc. and fire-fighting systems should be available.

The wiring done for various works during Ganeshotsav must be proper and free from defects and hazards. Care should be taken to ensure that the electric wires do not remain in a distorted form in crowded places. The most important thing is to make sure that the wires used for wiring are capable of carrying the load.

If people use weak wires that cannot withstand the electrical load, there is a high possibility of short circuit or burning of the wires and causing fire. There should be no connection of any kind of wires/cables in the arrangement. If joints are necessary use insulation tape properly. Since it is a rainy day during Ganeshotsav and tins are used for mandap, if the wires are loose or broken at many places but connected with tape, there is a possibility of electrical accident along with interruption of power supply.

Care should be taken to ensure that the insulated joints and other systems and equipment in the assembly are kept out of sight and not easily accessible to any person. Wires should not poke into the plug anywhere in the arrangement. Connection of fans, flood lights should be done with three-pin tops. Silk cloths, tents, or other flammable materials should not be placed near halogens, flood lights, or connecting wires.

Care should also be taken that the power supply wire does not come in contact with iron grill, aluminum, steel, etc. A procession is taken out to bid farewell to Lord Ganesha. It is necessary to ensure that the high and low-pressure lines, feeder pillars, and other electrical systems on the procession route are kept at a safe distance from the procession vehicles, scenery, etc.

During the Ganeshotsav period, keeping in mind the possibility of electric wire burning, short circuits, or failure in the power system, the office bearers and workers of the public Ganeshotsav Mandal must register the mobile numbers of the engineers of the concerned area.

In case of need for urgent assistance, contact Mahavitran’s 24-hour toll-free number 1912, 18002123435, or 18002333435.

Knowing, unknowing mistakes do not excuse these electrical accidents.

Therefore, it is very important to give priority to all electricity safety measures while celebrating Ganeshotsav in public.
