PUNE: The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has provided electricity connections to 8063 electricity consumers instantly in the month of July.

As per information, the MSEDCL will provide electricity connections within 24 hours in the urban areas and 48 hours in the rural areas for new consumers. Accordingly, in urban areas, 510 customers got the connection on the day of application, and 3775 customers got the connection within 24 hours of paying the fee.

In rural areas, 616 consumers got connections immediately while 3,162 consumers got electricity connections within 48 hours of paying the fee.

It is worthy to note that Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has instructed MSEDCL to provide quality and customer-oriented service. MSEDCL Chairman and Managing Director Lokesh Chandra has ordered the immediate disposal of applications for new power connections. As part of this, MSEDCL provided 1 lakh new electricity connections in 10 days in the month of June.

After customers apply for a new power connection, MSEDCL staff inspects the site and informs them about the fees to be paid. Accordingly, the focus was on providing connections within 24 hours to customers in urban areas who paid the fee. A total of 3,775 such consumers across the state benefited in July. After applying to MSEDCL, 510 customers who paid the fee immediately after receiving instructions received new connections on the day of application. A period of 48 hours has been fixed, keeping in view the distance and other difficulties in rural areas. In rural areas, 616 customers who paid the fee immediately received connections within 48 hours of applying. The number of customers who get a connection within 48 hours of paying the fee after applying is 3162.

It is relatively difficult to provide electricity connections to agricultural consumers. Infrastructure such as electric poles, wires, and transformers often have to be installed to provide electricity connections to agricultural pumps on wells located far away in the field. So, after farmers apply, they get delayed in getting connections. Mahavitaran has launched a campaign in the last year to solve this problem. It also accelerated the pace of providing connections to agricultural pumps to farmers.
