Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) would need about 100 hectares of land for the 94 km Pune-Mumbai Expressway to be converted from a six-lane to an eight-lane corridor.

The expressway will be widened by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) in order to handle the growing volume of traffic.

A comprehensive proposal to convert the expressway into an eight-lane corridor will be presented to the state government for budgetary allocation next week, according to a statement made by an MSRDC official on Thursday.

According to a senior MSRDC official, the proposal will be submitted for funding allocation since the state budget is anticipated to be released in February.

Land acquisition will be necessary for the entire stretch to be widened because eight new tunnels must be constructed. It will cost Rs 5,000 crore for the expansion of the entire expressway. By 2026, the project is expected to be started in stages and finished.

The MSRDC official went on to say that in order to expand the eight-laning project, MSRDC would need to purchase 100 hectares of land from private parties, the forest department, and other organizations for approaches and tunnels.

MSRDC is hopeful that the funds will be sanctioned in two stages. If approved, the corpus will pay for both the cost of building and purchasing land. The estimated cost of acquiring land, primarily for the eight tunnels, is approximately Rs 800 crore.
