The proposed industrial corridor along the Pune-Mumbai Expressway has moved into a key phase, with land acquisition processes beginning in parts of Maval taluka for a new MIDC project expected to attract investment and generate employment.

The plan to develop a major industrial belt along the Pune-Mumbai Expressway has taken a significant step forward with the commencement of land acquisition procedures for a proposed Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) project in Maval taluka. The initiative is aimed at creating a large industrial hub along one of the state’s most important transport corridors.

The proposed MIDC will spread across nearly 1,100 acres covering the villages of Baur, Karanj and Brahmanwadi in Maval. Survey and measurement work in the identified villages has been completed, paving the way for the next stage of the acquisition process. The industrial estate is planned on both sides of the expressway, with dry land selected for development.

Officials have stated that the site had been earmarked for industrial development years ago. Following the completion of land surveys and measurements, proposals have been submitted to the district administration, and the process of determining land values has begun.

As part of the exercise, officials from the revenue department, land records department and other government agencies carried out field inspections and measurements. Preliminary assessments regarding infrastructure, water availability and the potential impact on agriculture were also undertaken.

The project has, however, drawn concerns from some local farmers and landowners. Objections have been raised regarding the acquisition process, and affected residents have been asked to submit their claims and representations within the prescribed period.

Authorities believe the proposed MIDC will significantly boost industrial growth in the region by attracting new investments and creating employment opportunities. Industry representatives have also expressed optimism that the project will strengthen local supply chains and encourage economic development in Maval and nearby areas.

With industrial land demand continuing to rise in the Pune-Mumbai region, the new industrial corridor is expected to ease pressure on existing industrial zones while providing fresh opportunities for manufacturing, logistics and allied industries.

If implemented as planned, the project could transform Maval into an important industrial destination and further strengthen the economic significance of the Pune-Mumbai Expressway corridor.
