Pune: Mundhwa Teen Drowns In Ganpatipule
Beach Visit Ends in Tragedy as Pune’s Man Drowns at Tarkarli
Ratnagiri, October 27, 2025 — In a tragic incident at Ganpatipule beach in Ratnagiri, an 18-year-old youth from Pune drowned after venturing into the sea despite repeated warnings issued by authorities and locals due to rough sea conditions.
The deceased has been identified as Nikhil Shivaji Waghmare, a resident of Keshavnagar, Mundhwa, Pune. Nikhil had travelled to Ganpatipule with his family on October 24 for a short vacation. While enjoying a swim in the sea, he was swept away by a strong wave around 5 p.m. on Thursday evening.
According to reports, locals had been continuously advising tourists not to enter the sea, as the India Meteorological Department had already issued alerts about storm-like conditions. Even fishing boats were brought ashore for safety. However, despite these warnings, Nikhil entered the water and was pulled into deep waters by a sudden high tide.
His family and local residents immediately began searching for him, but he remained missing. The search continued until Saturday evening, when his body was found near a resort behind Malgund, close to Ganpatipule.
Nikhil was rushed to the Khandala Primary Health Centre, where medical officers declared him dead on arrival. The body was later handed over to his relatives after post-mortem formalities.
The incident has cast a shadow of grief over the Waghmare family. Local residents have once again urged tourists to strictly follow safety warnings to prevent such unfortunate accidents. A case has been registered at the Ganpatipule-Jaigad Police Station, and further investigation is underway under the supervision of Ratnagiri Police Officer Salvi.
