Pune Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram Visits Devachi Uruli Waste Depot; Focus On Expanding Waste Processing Capacity
Pune, November 2, 2025: Pune Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram visited the Devachi Uruli waste depot to review ongoing operations and projects related to solid waste management. During the inspection, he assessed the biomining project and the 500 metric tonne mixed waste processing plant, and reviewed progress with officials on-site.
Commissioner Ram directed officials to modernize the waste transfer centers at Hadapsar and Ghole Road, enhance the door-to-door waste collection system with advanced vehicles, and establish smart waste collection centers. He also emphasized the need to accelerate work on the Waste-to-Energy project to strengthen Pune’s waste management infrastructure.
Highlighting the importance of sustainability, he noted that new waste processing projects are essential to make Pune’s waste management more efficient and environmentally sustainable. He instructed that the city’s overall waste processing capacity must be increased in the coming months.
Commissioner Ram further ordered that the legacy waste (old garbage) at the site be completely cleared within a year through scientific biomining or bioremediation processes. The reclaimed land, he added, could later be used for public utility or development projects.
Senior officials including Solid Waste Management Department Head Sandeep Kadam, Executive Engineers Prasad Jagtap and Amar Madikunt, along with other department staff and contractors, were present during the visit.
The PMC reiterated its commitment to achieving environmentally sustainable waste management, and stated that with citizen cooperation, the city will continue to progress towards a clean and green Pune.
