As the monsoon approaches, Pune Municipal Corporation allocates Rs 30 crore for essential road repairs and pothole filling. With Lok Sabha election guidelines in place until May’s end, PMC rushes to ensure pre-monsoon preparations.

PMC, amidst citizen complaints of recurring potholes and questionable patchwork quality, faces the daunting task of maintaining over 1,400 km of roads, with 900 km tarred. The constant digging for various utility pipelines exacerbates road damage, necessitating frequent repairs.

Last year, PMC allocated Rs 300 crore for major road repairs and completed 100 km of work. However, the tendering process has been delayed due to election protocols, even though substantial funding has been allocated in the 2024-25 budget.

Shirish Kendre, a Wanowrie resident, emphasized the urgent need for repairs, stating, “The roads are in a very poor condition. ”

PMC’s road department’s superintending engineer, Sahebrao Dandge, has confirmed the issuance of 60 tenders amounting to Rs 30 crore’. The tenders will focus on asphalting and filling potholes before the monsoons arrive. Dandge has assured that the work will be completed before the monsoons, thus providing temporary relief to the weary commuters.
