Pune, August 27, 2025: To ensure the safety of citizens during Ganpati immersion, the Pune Fire Brigade has deployed firemen and lifeguards at the following immersion ghats, a practice followed since 1992 to prevent drowning incidents:

  1. Amriteshwar Ghat
  2. Pulachi Wadi
  3. Near Natraj Cinema
  4. Omkareshwar
  5. Vruddheshwar
  6. Garware College
  7. Panchaleshwar
  8. Ashtabhuja Mandir
  9. Sangam Ghat
  10. Vitthal Mandir
  11. Bappu Ghat
  12. Thosar Paga Ghat
  13. Chima Udyan Yerwada
  14. Dattawadi Ghat
  15. Warje (Smashanbhumi)

Key Arrangements:

  • Safety ropes installed across rivers to prevent drowning.
  • Citizens encouraged to immerse idols in artificial tanks rather than entering deep waters.
  • Leave of all fire brigade staff canceled between August 27 and September 6, 2025.
  • 15 firemen and 90 lifeguards (30 reserved) deployed daily across ghats.
  • Life jackets and high-visibility vests for lifeguards.
  • Emergency wireless communication centers at Tilak Chowk and behind Natraj Cinema during Anant Chaturdashi processions.
  • Fire Safety Awareness programs conducted in collaboration with FSAI for Ganesh Mandal volunteers.

Electrical Safety and Lighting Arrangements

  • Streetlight poles across Pune have been inspected; citizens warned against tampering, drawing unauthorized electricity, or tying objects to poles.
  • Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company to provide temporary power connections at subsidized rates for pandals.
  • 3,708 LED lights, 197 generator sets, 388 speaker sets, and 192 sq. ft. LED screens to be installed at 429 immersion sites.
  • 344 temporary CCTV cameras to monitor sensitive areas across five municipal zones.

Road and Traffic Department Preparations

  • Roads along immersion routes repaired, resurfaced, and potholes filled.
  • Mission 32 Roads in core city areas completed.
  • Introduction of PMC Road Mitra App for citizens to report road issues instantly.
  • Emergency road repair vans to operate during the festival.

Solid Waste & Idol Immersion Management

  • Artificial immersion tanks: 38 built tanks + 648 iron tanks across 281 locations.
  • 328 Nirmalya containers and 241 idol collection centers set up.
  • Shadu clay idol collection centers established at 46 locations for eco-friendly reuse.
  • Awareness campaigns urging citizens to avoid immersion in natural water bodies.
  • 554 portable toilets to be installed across the city.

Environmental Awareness & Recycling

  • Collaborations with NGOs like Ecoexist, Swachh Pune Seva Cooperative, Cummins India, Janwani, and Jivit Nadi to recycle Shadu clay.
  • Religious offerings (Nirmalya) to be converted into compost for farmers.
  • Public urged to avoid dumping plastic, thermocol, or non-biodegradable waste.

Inspections and Review

Senior PMC officials, including Additional Municipal Commissioner Omprakash DivateDeputy Commissioners Vijay Thorat & Prashant Thombre, and other engineers and health inspectors, have conducted site visits to immersion tanks and reviewed arrangements.
