Pune Municipal Corporation Set to Become India’s First Civic Body to Offer PET Scan, MRI, CT, and Advanced Diagnostic Lab Services
Pune, November 5, 2025: In a major healthcare initiative, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has begun work on setting up the city’s first PET Scan and Radio Diagnostic Laboratory under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. The facility aims to make advanced cancer diagnostics affordable and accessible to economically weaker patients.
At present, no municipal or government hospital in Pune offers PET scan services, forcing cancer patients to depend on private hospitals that charge high fees. The upcoming center will bridge this crucial gap by offering services at Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) approved rates, ensuring affordability for all.
On Tuesday, Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram, along with Dr. Nina Borade (Health Officer, PMC), Dr. Sanjeev Wavare (Assistant Health Officer, PMC), and local representatives, inspected the project site located near Swargate Hirabaug Health Post, within the premises of the Late Vasantdada Patil Training Centre.
The new facility will make PMC the first municipal body in India to offer a comprehensive PET Scan and Radio Diagnostic Lab, featuring Pathology, Biochemistry, MRI, and CT Scan services under one roof.
“The project will be a milestone in providing cost-effective diagnostic support to poor and needy cancer patients. Work is progressing rapidly, and the facility is expected to be completed by December 2025,” said Dr. Sanjeev Wavare, Assistant Health Officer, PMC.
