Pune: NCP SP Demands Cancellation of ₹1,860 Crore STP Tender Approved by PMC, Alleges Irregularities and Political Pressure
Pune, November 1, 2025 — Nationalist Congress Party (SP) Pune City President Prashant Jagtap has raised serious objections to the Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) approval of six new Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) tenders worth ₹1,860 crore. In a letter addressed to PMC Commissioner and Administrator Naval Kishore Ram, Jagtap alleged that the tender process was conducted under political pressure from the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the state and central levels and that it could result in a loss of around ₹500 crore to the civic body.
Jagtap stated that the tenders appeared to be tailored to benefit a specific company, whose directors are reportedly BJP office-bearers. He accused the PMC administration of approving the tender terms in a way that directly burdens Pune’s taxpayers.
“This project reflects an organized misuse of public funds, and it is disappointing that the administration has not intervened to stop it,” he said.
According to Jagtap, PMC has sufficient deposits and receives grants from both the state and central governments, which could have been used to construct and operate the STP projects internally without involving private contractors.
Jagtap demanded immediate cancellation of the tenders and warned that if no action is taken, he will lead a protest at the PMC headquarters on Monday and also approach the Bombay High Court for legal redress.
