Pune: The Chakan police booked 2 individuals for carrying 22 buffaloes in their vehicles despite having a permit to carry only 10 buffaloes on December 3, Sunday.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Sachin Nighot, Police Constable, Chakan Police Station said, “The 2 individuals booked in the case were carrying 22 buffaloes in 2 trucks. They did not have a permit to carry more than 10 buffaloes. Hence, it’s a violation of norms. So, a case has been registered against them.”

As per information from a press release of Pimpri Chinchwad Police, 2 accused, identified as Jamir Shaikh & Papa Shaikh, on December 2 (Saturday), were carrying 22 buffaloes in their vehicles. They did not have permission to carry so many buffaloes.

The buffaloes were kept cruelly inside the trucks without any fodder to eat. The space of the trucks was too small, hence all the buffaloes were congested. Also, there was neither a first aid kit nor any other emergency medical facilities in the trucks.

They were carrying these buffaloes for slaughter.

Hence, a case has been registered against Jamir Shaikh & Papa Shaikh at Chakan police station under section 11 (1) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, section 9A of Maharashtra Animal Preservation Act, 1976 section 88 of Maharashtra Motor Vehicle Rules, 1989. Further investigation into the matter is going on.
