Pune News: 25 Key Traffic Congestion Points Identified In Pimpri; Measures Underway
Pimpri-Chinchwad, known for its industrial zones, IT hubs in Hinjewadi and Talawade, pilgrimage sites like Dehu-Alandi, and renowned educational institutions, has been facing severe traffic congestion. A recent survey by the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) and the traffic police examined 80 major junctions, revealing that 25 of them experience the worst traffic jams.
To address this issue, the municipal corporation’s urban transport department has launched measures aimed at decongesting these areas within the next six months. Factors contributing to congestion include an increasing number of vehicles, unruly driving, and roadside encroachments. Peak-hour traffic has been a major concern for commuters.
Following multiple meetings, authorities have shortlisted 25 severely congested junctions, including Bharatmata Chowk, Dehu Phata, Wakad Chowk, Bhumkar Chowk, and Nashik Phata. Initial efforts will focus on nine locations, implementing solutions such as traffic assistants, signal modifications, one-way traffic management, bollards, and road diversions.
Additionally, larger junctions will see further improvements, including the introduction of speed tables for pedestrian safety. Authorities aim to systematically ease congestion across all identified areas in a phased manner over the next six months.
