In a significant development, the Maharashtra Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested the joint controller of the legal metrology department in the Pune division for his involvement in a bribery case. The accused, identified as Lalit Beniram Harole (55), was apprehended while accepting a bribe at his office in Yerwada.

The ACB took action against Harole after receiving a complaint from an inspector of the legal metrology department in Islampur, who reported the bribery incident to the Pune ACB office.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) Nitin Jadhav of ACB, Pune, revealed that apart from the complaint from Islampur, similar complaints were lodged from Karad and Satara. According to the ACB’s investigation, Harole, in his position as the divisional head, allegedly demanded a monthly bribe of Rs 4,000 from each office, totaling Rs 16,000 per month.

The ACB conducted a swift operation and caught Harole red-handed while accepting the bribe at his office in Yerwada. The case is now being thoroughly investigated by DySP Sudam Pachorkar.

This arrest underscores the ACB’s commitment to combating corruption and maintaining transparency in government departments. The legal metrology department plays a crucial role in ensuring fair trade practices, and any corruption within its ranks is taken seriously to uphold public trust and the integrity of the system.
