Pune News : Animal Welfare Board of India appeals to celebrate February 14 as ‘Cow Hug day’
Pune: The Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI) has announced that February 14, which is celebrated worldwide as Valentine’s Day, must be observed as Cow Hug Day. AWBI has appealed to the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Government of India to celebrate the same.
In its letter written to the authorities, AWBI states, “In view of the importance of cows, hugging with a cow will bring emotional richness. Therefore, all the cow lovers should celebrate February 14 as Cow Hug day keeping in mind the importance of cow and making life happy and full of positive energy.”
Further it states, “We all know that the Cow is the backbone of Indian culture and rural economy, sustains our life, represents cattle wealth and biodiversity. It is known as “Kamdhenu” and “Gaumata” because of its nourishing nature like mother, the giver of all providing riches to humanity. Vedic traditions are almost on the verge of extinction due to the progress of western culture. The dazzle of western civilization has made our physical culture and heritage almost forgotten.”
