Pune, May 28, 2025 — A swift response by Pimpri-Chinchwad police foiled an attempted ATM robbery in the Dehu Road area in the early hours of Tuesday. Two members of an alleged interstate ATM theft gang were arrested at the scene, while three others managed to flee.
The arrested accused have been identified as Mustafa Mobin Khan and Mustakim Mobim Khan, both residents of Nuh district in Haryana. According to police, the duo was caught in the act while trying to break open an ATM using a gas cutter. Their associates—identified as Yusuf Khan, Varis Khan, and Azad Khan—escaped by car towards Alandi. Police have launched a manhunt to trace them.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that Yusuf Khan is the mastermind behind the gang, allegedly involved in multiple ATM thefts across various states.
The robbery attempt came to light when police constables Samadhan Patavkar and Kiran Patil, on routine night patrol, noticed a suspicious vehicle in the area. As they approached, some of the suspects fled, prompting the officers to alert senior officials. Upon checking a nearby ATM, the officers found two men inside trying to break the machine using tools.
When confronted, the accused allegedly hurled stones and abused the police officers. With the help of local residents, the police managed to subdue and arrest them.
Dehu Road Police Station’s Senior Police Inspector Vikram Bansode confirmed that the gang has been active across Maharashtra and other states. Tools including gas cutters, iron rods, and other break-in equipment were recovered from the scene.
A case has been registered at Dehu Road police station under sections 310(2), 312, and 132 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
