Pune: Kalyani Nagar residents complain that the traffic signals at the busy Gold Adlabs Chowk have been in a state of disrepair for quite some time now, causing immense inconvenience and risk to the daily commuters.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Haresh Bharwani, a resident of Kalyani Nagar said, “When you are going towards D Mart, you can’t see the signals properly; they are on old/tilted poles, making it difficult for commuters to see the signal. If there is red light on the signal, due to the tilted signals not being easily viewable, commuters break the red light, they get penalized. So, this is all because of these old, broken, tilted signals & poles. Why can’t some new poles & signals be put up for commuters to properly see & understand?”

Sri Prakash, a resident of Kalyani Nagar said, “When you come from Gold Adlabs Chowk to D Mart side, the traffic signals can’t be seen properly as sometimes the signal is put up at short heights, poles are tilted, signals are not maintained, etc.”

Monica S, another resident of Kalyani Nagar said, “As a long-time resident, it’s disheartening to witness the decay of our once-efficient traffic system. The broken and tilted signals at Gold Adlabs Chowk not only disrupt traffic but also compromise our safety. It’s high time the authorities address this issue and prioritize the well-being of the citizens.”

As per further information from Kalyani Nagar residents,

  • Broken signal: One of the traffic signals at the junction is completely broken, leaving drivers confused and struggling to navigate through the intersection. This has resulted in frequent traffic congestion and near misses, which could easily be avoided if the signal was functioning properly.
  • Tilted signal: Another signal is tilting precariously, making it difficult for drivers to see the signals correctly. This is particularly problematic during nighttime, as the dim lighting makes it even harder to see the already-tilted signals.

As regular commuters who pass through this junction every day, they have witnessed numerous close calls and accidents that could have been prevented with proper maintenance and upkeep of the traffic signals. Despite several complaints from locals and commuters, the issue remains unresolved.

Despite repeated attempts the Traffic and PMC officials remained unavailable to comment on the issue.
