Pune: In a move to enhance the convenience of the passengers travelling to South and East Pune after alighting at the Pune-Shivaji Nagar metro station, the metro administration has decided to establish a bus bay from where more than a hundred buses belonging to the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) will operate.

The bus bay will not only facilitate feeder services but will also serve as a departure point for a large number of PMPML buses from the Shivajinagar Courtroom. The administration of PMPML has initiated the planning for this. The bus service will commence once the metro service is operational.

With the metro route recently extending up to Ruby Hall, passenger service to Ruby Hall will also commence soon. Having the availability of PMPML bus services upon metro arrival or departure is essential for seamless transportation.

As per information, the PMPML administration intends to launch feeder services from Garware College. A seven-meter bus will be required for this purpose. However, the passenger service from the Shivajinagar Courtroom bus bay will not require a specific bus size and can utilize both nine and twelve-meter buses. The bus bay at Shivajinagar will accommodate twelve-meter-long air-conditioned buses.

At least ten routes will have buses departing from the Shivajinagar Bus Bay. Around twenty-five buses will be assigned for this purpose. The plan anticipates over a hundred bus trips per day. This is expected to accommodate a significant number of passengers. The PMPML predicts an increase in the number of people traveling by PMPML, potentially leading to higher passenger revenue.

Some of the challenges that they may face are some PMPML routes operate from Surya Hospital near Shaniwar Wada. After the opening of the bus bay at Shivajinagar, these routes will be shifted to the bus bay, thereby alleviating traffic congestion in that area. This transition is expected to take place within the next one to one and a half months.

Satish Gavane, Chief Transport Manager of PMPML, Pune, expressed that the bus bay facility at Shivajinagar Courtroom, along with the demand for a charging station from the metro administration, will provide convenience to passengers and improve overall transportation services.
