Many Closed Circuit Television surveillance systems on various roads and bylanes in the Wanawadi locality were found to be defunct, as per the residents.

Recent incidents in the area have proved that the civic body has failed to maintain the CCTV cameras which has led to an increase in the crime rate and broad daylight robberies.

One can never forget recent ruckus created by youths in which they vandalised many vehicles parked along roadside. The police had a tough time gathering CCTV evidence as most of the cameras were not functioning.
The installation of CCTV cameras by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) in Wanawadi largely remained a political agenda, allege residents.

When contacted, Mangesh Misal, Electrical Engineer, Pune Municipal Corporation said, “Yes it is true that we have installed almost 25 CCTV cameras before the pandemic but recently we had reviewed all cameras and repaired them. We will look into this matter again on a priority basis and if any camera is found dysfunctional then we will repair it on an urgent basis.”

Residents say that while some cameras are hanging up a wire, others are facing downwards, some are not functioning and others are failing to capture images.
