Around 50 companies from Chakan MIDC have shifted their operations to Gujarat, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh, according to senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh. This migration is primarily due to the overburdened infrastructure and inadequate facilities in Chakan, a key hub for the automobile manufacturing industry.

Chakan Industrial Estate, home to global giants like Mercedes Benz, Volkswagen, Bridgestone, and Atlas Copco, is struggling with traffic congestion and poor infrastructure. The roads are plagued by potholes, leading to accidents and traffic jams, which in turn affect the productivity of companies. Despite Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar’s high-level meeting in July, no concrete steps have been taken to address these issues.

Jairam Ramesh highlighted these concerns on social media, emphasizing the importance of retaining investment in Maharashtra. “Chakan is an important automobile manufacturing center, but the condition of infrastructure there is very poor. Many big companies are taking steps to leave,” he stated. Ramesh also pointed out that the government’s inaction has resulted in significant job losses.

Dilip Batwal, Secretary of the Federation of Chakan Industries, corroborated Ramesh’s claims, stating that many companies are still seeking space in other states due to the bottleneck. “Inadequate infrastructure and traffic congestion have suffocated industries here. Two to three hours of daily commuting time of employees is wasted, affecting productivity,” Batwal said.

The Federation of Chakan Industries has repeatedly raised the issue of companies migrating to foreign states, citing the need for urgent action. With many industries having already moved from Maharashtra to Gujarat, it is crucial for the government to address these concerns and prevent further exodus.
