Vardhman Group chairman SP Oswal loses ₹7 crore in cyber fraud; police recover ₹5.25 crore and arrest two.

In a major cyber fraud, Vardhman Group chairman SP Oswal was duped of ₹7 crore by a gang of inter-state cyber criminals. The fraudsters, posing as CBI officers, tricked the industrialist by showing him a fake arrest warrant and threatening him with a “digital arrest.” They managed to get ₹7 crore withdrawn from his bank accounts.

Punjab Police acted swiftly, arresting two gang members, Atanoo Choudhary and Anand Kumar Choudhary, both from Guwahati, Assam. The police have recovered ₹5.25 crore and identified seven other members of the gang, who are from Assam and West Bengal. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining culprits.

This case follows a similar incident earlier in the week where another industrialist, Rajnish Ahuja, was scammed of ₹1.01 crore under similar threats. The cyber cell registered the case based on Oswal’s complaint and solved it within 48 hours.
