Pune News: Contractor Booked Nearly 3 Years After Girl Drowned In Water Pit In Pimpri Chinchwad
Pune | June 7, 2025 — Almost three years after a two-and-a-half-year-old girl died by falling into a water pit, Pimpri Chinchwad police have filed an FIR against a contractor for negligence. The incident happened on July 17, 2022, around 3:30 PM at Bindra Industries Company in Nighoje village, Khed taluka. The girl, Tapasi Sonu Siraswal, had been playing near the pit when she accidentally fell in and drowned. Her father worked as a watchman at the company.
According to the police, the pit had been dug for lift construction. However, the contractor, Vishal Sonawane, allegedly failed to put safety measures like fencing or covering the pit. This lack of precaution led to the fatal accident.
At the time, an accidental death report was filed, and an inquiry was started. But the girl’s parents did not wish to file a complaint back then.
Recently, they decided to pursue the matter, and based on the findings of the inquiry, Assistant Police Inspector Rakesh Gumane lodged the FIR at Mahalunge MIDC Police Station. The contractor has been booked under IPC Section 304(a), which deals with causing death by negligence.
The investigation is ongoing.
