Pune: Officials from the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) on Thursday confirmed that, proposal of 20 double decker buses has been approved in the board meeting.

Om Prakash Bakoria said, “We have made a detailed proposal in which we have demanded a total 100 e buses out of which 20 are double decker to both municipal corporations including Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad and board has given approval for it.’’

Now soon, PMPML will get 20 new double decker buses soon which will be used for Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad city. However, officials further told that, exact date of launch of these double decker buses cannot be confirmed and it might take time.

Sanjay Shitole, secretary of PMPML Pravasi Manch, told  â€œPublic transport facilities that will carry large numbers of passengers at a time are the need of an hour. However, double decker buses are not useful for small routes. There are many routes in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad city where buses are running beyond their capacity. Hence double decker buses will be useful on such routes.’’

Shitole suggested double decker buses can be run on the crowded routes like Katraj to Hinjewadi, Katraj to Nigdi, MaNaPa to Alandi, and MaNaPa (PMC Headquarters) to Bhosari routes.
