Pune: In a unique step to mark Ganesh Jayanti, the Erandwane Public Ganeshotsav Mandal has decided to forgo the traditional Ganesh Yagya. Instead, the entire budget for the event will be utilized to raise awareness about the ongoing encroachment on a local stream near the Peshwa-era Mrityunjay Temple on Karve Road. The Mandal has taken a firm stand to halt the ongoing road construction, which involves the illegal covering of the nala (stream).

Joined by the Kothrud Natural Resources Committee, the Mandal has vowed to fight this issue both through public protests and legal channels. They have urged the authorities to immediately stop the ongoing roadwork, which they believe is damaging the local ecosystem. On the occasion of Ganesh Jayanti, members of the Mandal sought Lord Ganesh’s blessings, emphasizing that the encroachment must cease without delay.

Furthermore, all Mandal members have sworn an oath to preserve nature, vowing to protect rivers, streams, and natural resources. As part of their initiative, the Mandal invited Ganesh devotees to fill out complaint forms regarding the nala encroachment. By the end of the day, over 150 such forms had been submitted.

The Mandal’s executive members, including President Prashant Velankar, Women’s Committee Chairperson Adv. Sumangal Wagh, Vice President Kishori Kachare, Secretary Satish Khaire, Treasurer Suresh Nimbalkar, and several other key officials were present during the event. The Mandal has shown unwavering commitment to fighting for the preservation of nature and the community’s well-being.
