Ahilyanagar, June 11, 2026: In a major relief for commuters travelling between Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Pune, the Maharashtra government has granted administrative approval for the repair of the long-neglected 42-km Wadala–Ahilyanagar road stretch. The decision is expected to save travellers at least one hour of journey time and bring an end to years of hardship caused by the road’s poor condition.
The road, a crucial link on the busy Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar–Pune route, has been in a severely damaged state for the past three years due to administrative delays. Motorists were often forced to drive cautiously at reduced speeds to navigate the pothole-ridden stretch, leading to longer travel times and safety concerns.
The breakthrough came after the Aurangabad Bench of the Bombay High Court strongly reprimanded the state government on May 1 over the prolonged neglect of the road. Following the court’s intervention, the government sanctioned ₹56.07 crore for comprehensive repairs of the Wadala–Ahilyanagar section.
Until now, authorities had resorted to temporary patchwork repairs before every monsoon, only for the road to deteriorate again after the first rains. The poor condition of the stretch reportedly added around 65 minutes to the travel time between Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Pune.
With substantial funding now approved, commuters are hopeful that a permanent solution will finally be implemented, ending three years of difficult travel conditions.
However, challenges remain on the next section of the route between Ahilyanagar and Shirur. The road is currently caught in a technical dispute involving the Public Works Department (PWD) and the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC), leaving the future of that stretch unresolved.
