Pune: Residents of Margosa Heights housing society in Mohamadwadi are unhappy after the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) sent notice to their society in an effort to collect pending property tax.

Vinod Salian from Margosa Heights said, “Instead of issuing individual notices, the civic body issued notice to us over pending property tax and threatened us by saying that they would cut the water supply of the society. In fact, the civic body should take action against the defaulters, but we don’t know why they are targeting us?.”

Residents questioned that, when only a few people are not paying their taxes, how can the PMC take action against honest taxpayers? The civic body should take action against individuals. Why are they threatening to cut off facilities, they asked in unison.

In a letter dated on 14 January 2023, it was stated that 206 properties in the Margosa Heights housing society have not paid Rs 78,59,194 property tax.
Through this letter, it was informed that within the next two days they have to clear all dues otherwise society members will have to face action like water supply cuts.

Ajit Deshmukh, head, property tax department, Pune Municipal Corporation said, “After repetitive reminders many people have not paid their taxes and hence we have issued notices for the knowledge of the society, so that they can take this issue to their society’s general body.”

He further said that they have not issued any circular on water cuts because of due taxes. These are instructions for helping the civic body.
