Pune News: IAS Officer Trigun Kulkarni Appointed As First-Ever Chairperson Of Maharashtra State Board
Pune: For the first time in history, an IAS officer has been appointed as the Chairman of the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (State Board). IAS officer Trigun Kulkarni, currently serving as Deputy Director General at YASHADA, has been entrusted with the leadership of the State Board.
The State Board is an autonomous body under the Education Department responsible for conducting Class 10 and Class 12 examinations across Maharashtra through its divisional boards. Until now, the Chairperson’s post had always been held by an officer from the Education Service appointed through the Maharashtra Public Service Commission.
Earlier, Sharad Gosavi served as the Chairman of the State Board for three years. He was later transferred to the post of Director of Primary Education and had also held the additional charge of State Board Chairman for the past year, managing both roles simultaneously.
Against this backdrop, Trigun Kulkarni, a 2016-batch IAS officer working at the Yashwantrao Chavan Academy of Development Administration (YASHADA), has now been appointed as the Chairperson of the State Board. This marks the first time an IAS officer will lead the Board in its history.
The State Board conducts Class 10 and Class 12 exams twice a year. Around 32 lakh students appear for the February–March examinations, while approximately 6 lakh students take the supplementary exams in June–July.
The State Board has recently released the timetable for the Class 10 and Class 12 exams. The written exam for Class 12 will be held from February 10 to March 18 across nine divisional boards—Pune, Nagpur, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Mumbai, Kolhapur, Amravati, Nashik, Latur, and Konkan. Practical exams, including Information Technology and General Knowledge, will take place from January 23 to February 9.
Similarly, the Class 10 written exam will be conducted from February 20 to March 18, while practical exams for Anatomy, Health, and Home Science, along with oral and internal assessments, will be held from February 2 to 18. The Board has stated that measures are being taken to curb examination malpractices.
