Local Authorities Extend Invitation for Citizen Input Following Recent Accident, Promoting Inclusive Decision-Making Process

In the aftermath of the recent Porsche car accident in Kalyani Nagar, local authorities have initiated penal actions against the bars and operators in the vicinity. Among the measures taken, temporary suspension or cancellation of liquor licenses for some bars and pubs has been implemented. However, in a move towards greater community involvement and transparency, officials have decided to include the affected citizens in the decision-making process.

Yesterday, a hearing was conducted where bar and pub operators had the opportunity to present their perspectives on the matter. Now, authorities are extending an invitation to the citizens residing in the surrounding area to voice their views and grievances regarding the situation.

In a letter written by former corporator Meenal Sarvade, she has asked Suhas Diwase, Collector of Pune demanding inclusion of local citizens in the hearing held for pubs, bars and restaurants from Kalyani Nagar as affected parties. She stated that the local residents must be given a chance to report about their experiences, mainly harassment caused by these establishments in the area. For the past few years the residents have been raising their voices against the establishments for causing noise pollution, traffic and safety issues.

Recognizing the citizens as ‘affected parties’, officials aim to gather valuable insights from the community to inform their final decision regarding the penalties imposed on the establishments. This move underscores the importance of community engagement and highlights the authorities’ commitment to ensuring the well-being and safety of the local residents.
