In an effort to lessen the ongoing traffic congestion on this stretch of Katraj Kondhwa Road, an extension of the under-construction flyover’s landing by about 900 metres towards the Kondhwa side has been approved.

To get rid of traffic jams, the NHAI is currently building a flyover at Katraj Chowk. The flyover was supposed to land close to the Rajas Society intersection on Katraj-Kondhwa Road, according to the current plan. In an effort to relieve traffic congestion, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) proposed a few months ago to the NHAI to extend the flyover’s landing towards Kondhwa.

An official from PMC stated that they have got positive feedback on the proposal. This extension is essential because it will speed up the ongoing widening of Katraj-Kondhwa Road. The PMC will now expedite the widening of Katraj-Kondhwa Road, which was delayed due to lack of adequate land.

The civic administration has pushed ahead with the widening work, according to a senior PMC official. They have been able to obtain the land needed for the widening over the past few days. Talks are also ongoing with additional landowners. They have also immediately started widening on stretches where land has been acquired.

The PMC has decided to build a road which will be 50 meters wide at maximum stretches. The current width of the current road, which is about 18 meters, is insufficient to manage the volume of traffic. The current road is around 18 metres wide which is insufficient to handle the extensive traffic volume.

The estimated cost of the extension will be worked out with PMC, among other technical and non-technical details, according to NHAI officials.
