Pune: The Pimpri Chinchwad police have arrested the mastermind behind the Sonya Tapkir murder case from the Indo-Nepal border on July 2. It has also arrested three others in the case. All the accused were brought back to Chikhali. 

As per information from Dnyaneshwar Katkar, Police Inspector, Chikhali Police Station said the police got the tip-off that the main accused identified as Karan Rokade, along with 3 other accused, identified as Rutvik alias Mungya Rokade, Rinku Dinesh Kumar and a minor are hiding in Madhuban in Uttar Pradesh. They are planning to flee to Nepal. So, the police led a trap and caught all of them. The 4 accused were brought back to Chikhali. A case under sections 302 & 120(B) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against them.

It is worthy to note that the police have already caught two more accused identified as Saurabh Pansare and a minor. Pansare is in jail and the minor is kept in an observation home as per laws. However, the other 4 accused managed to run away.

Katkar further informed, “All the accused belonged to Chikhali. They managed to flee after the murder of Sonya Tapkir on May 22. The murder took place due to the rising popularity of Sonya Tapkir in the area. All the accused had fights with Sonya Tapkir several times over petty issues. Rokade thought that Sonya would kill him after becoming influential in the area, so he convinced others to commit the heinous crime.”

Police are further investigating the case.
