Pune: Baner police have arrested a man from Mumbai for allegedly cheating a software engineer woman of ₹34 lakh on the pretext of marriage. The accused has been identified as Saish Vinod Jadhav (25), a resident of Saibaba Nagar, Shell Colony Road, Chembur, Mumbai.

According to the police, the victim, a software engineer, resides in a hostel in Baner and works at an IT company in Balewadi. She had registered on a matrimonial site in 2023, where she met the accused. Saish Jadhav expressed his intention to marry her and visited Baner to meet her in May 2023.

During their meetings, he claimed his parents had passed away and his brother was working in Dubai. Trusting him, the woman continued their conversations. Later, he fabricated a story about being in financial trouble due to a friend’s betrayal, stating that he would be jailed if he did not repay a debt.

The accused borrowed an expensive mobile phone from her, citing issues with his own. He then sought urgent financial help, prompting the woman to transfer money to him multiple times. She even borrowed ₹15 lakh from her manager and took loans from private financial institutions to help him. Over the course of 18 months, she transferred ₹33.82 lakh to the accused.

When the woman questioned him about their marriage plans, he began to evade her queries. Realizing she had been cheated, she approached Baner police and filed a complaint.

The police launched an investigation, leading to the arrest of Saish Jadhav from Mumbai. The case is being investigated by police officials.
