In the midst of the controversy surrounding the proposed Bal Bharati-Paud Phata Link road in Pune, Shivajinagar MLA Siddhart Shirole and former Pune mayor Murlidhar Mohol will be walking the entire length of the proposed road on the evening of March 28 to gain a better understanding of its impact.

At a meeting with officials on March 25, Murlidhar Mohol and Siddhart Shirloe were joined by a few residents from the area. They will be accompanied on their walk by VG Kulkarni, Head of Pune Municipal Corporation’s Road Department, and other senior officials from the civic body. Shirole has invited residents to join them on the walk if they are interested in learning more about the BBPP Link Road or have any questions, concerns or suggestions.

The walk is set to start at 5:30 PM on March 28th from Balbharati on Senapati Bapat Road.

Environmental activists in the city have been opposing this project since it was first proposed in 1987.

Nagrik Chetna Manch had filed a public interest litigation (PIL), which the high court dismissed and asked the civic body to prepare an environmental impact report for the project. However, this group accused the PMC of violating the directives of the Bombay HC in 2021.

For those who may not be aware, Vetal Tekdi is a prominent hill within the city limits of Pune. It is the highest point within the city and one of the few remaining untouched forests in the area. The hill gets its name from the Vetala temple located on its summit.
