Pune: The long-awaited work of installing a monopole on the connecting road near Dorabjee Paradise Bungalow Society in Mohamadwadi has finally begun. Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) recently initiated the project after the road remained closed for over eight months, causing severe traffic congestion in the area. The work is expected to be completed by May 2025.

For months, residents of Mohamadwadi and Undri have faced inconvenience due to the road closure, which has significantly impacted daily commutes. Pune Pulse has consistently highlighted the issue in its reports, urging authorities to take necessary action.

PMC’s electrical department deputy engineer, Nilesh Kalekar, confirmed that the work commenced yesterday. He stated that the installation of the monopole would take a minimum of three months, after which the road could be reopened for vehicular traffic. The existing high-tension wires posed a risk to vehicles, as the poles were located close to the connecting culvert.

Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company Limited (MSETCL) officials explained that the vertical clearance of the bridge had reduced after its construction, making the installation of monopoles essential. “Our transmission lines have been in place for many years. The monopole structure is a space-efficient solution that will replace the high-tension lines,” an MSETCL official stated.

MSETCL has informed PMC about the requirement for one monopole in the area. PMC has begun the work on the base to install the structure. Since the site involves a 132 kV line, motorists, especially those driving heavy vehicles, have been urged to avoid the stretch until the work is completed.
