Pune: Motorists Risk Lives On Closed Road In Mohammadwadi Near High Tension Pole Despite Warnings

The high tension pole on the connecting road from Dorabjee Paradise Via Lavanya hotel to Indian Oil petrol pump was closed by the civic authority recently due to the high risk posed to the motorists. The road remained closed for a few weeks before the local residents started making way out of the debris which had closed the road for vehicular traffic.Â

But for the last few days, motorists are risking their lives and crossing through the road, using it as a shortcut to reach Kad Nagar.
When Pune Pulse raised the matter with the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) they informed that the road was closed and the vertical alignment of the pole with the bridge was reduced. This may cause any untoward incident. To avoid any mishap we had recommended that it be closed. But in the recent past this road has been seeing a surge in vehicular traffic posing a risk. Since it is a high risk pole, it falls under the Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Limited (MSETCL) department.
Pune Pulse spoke to the MSETCL official about the road being opened for vehicles even knowing the danger. Varsha Borkar, executive engineer, MSETCL on the issue said, “The vertical clearance of the bridge to the line was reduced as the bridge was built. Our lines exist for many years in the area. The time has come to install mono poles in the area in place of these high tension lines. Mono pole is a high rise tower and also occupies less space. The estimate from our end is in completion stages and shall soon be shared with PMC. ”
Borkar further stated that the Pune Municipal Corporation has been informed about the erection of two monopoles in the area. MSETCL will soon raise a demand notice for the same and further technical process required for erection of the mono poles will begin soon. The road closure of the said area must be looked after by the Corporation. This is a 132 kv line and comes with a high risk. Motorists, especially heavy vehicles, must avoid using that road.
