Pune News: MPSC aspirants continue to protest in Pune
Pune: Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) aspirants in Pune continued protesting against implementing the new exam pattern from 2023. The aspirants demanded that the new pattern of conducting examinations in descriptive format be implemented from 2025 rather than 2023. Although Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis have assured the aspirants that the pattern would be ỉn implemented in 2025, there has been no official decision from the MPSC board.
The protest, which started on Monday, February 20 at Jhansi Rani Chowk near Balgandharva Rangamandir, has been going on for over 24 hours, with students refusing to budge until their demands are met. This is the third protest held by the aspirants, and they say that the demonstrations will continue until the MPSC board makes a clear decision. The protesters continued protesting over the night using mobile flashlights after street lights were switched off.
The students have been demanding that the new descriptive pattern examination system be postponed until they are fully prepared. They argue that if the system is implemented without adequate preparation, it will lead to a decline in the quality of education and adversely affect their prospects.
On Tuesday morning, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, when contacted through a phone call, assured the aspirants of complete support from the government. He said, “We have requested the MPSC Commission to implement the descriptive pattern from 2025. But if the commission does not decide, we will have to go to court. However, the government supports the students and will be with them. The decision to continue the protests is completely on the students.” He added that MPSC is an autonomous body, and it is not in the hands of the government to issue a notification in this regard.
