Pune: Most of the customers of Western Maharashtra of Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) have failed to pay their bills prompting the MSEDCL to start a campaign to disconnect the power supply to residential, commercial, and industrial consumers.

It is worthy to note that MSEDCL faced a financial crunch due to the non-payment of bills from consumers.

As per information, for MSEDCL the primary source of revenue is the collection of electricity bills. Approximately 80 per cent of the monthly revenue is allocated towards the purchase of electricity. Subsequently, the remaining revenue is utilized for day-to-day maintenance and repairs, loan repayments, contractor payments, and installation expenses, among others. The recent celebration of Diwali witnessed great enthusiasm.

However, the negligence in paying electricity bills for the current month, in comparison to other expenses, has increased the number of defaulters in western Maharashtra.

Ankush Nale, the Regional Director of Pune, has earnestly appealed to farmers to cooperate by promptly settling their electricity bills for the current month.

Currently, the Pune regional division is facing a significant issue with a total of 18.02 lakh domestic, commercial, and industrial defaulters who have not paid electricity bills amounting to Rs 376.67 crore.

This includes Pune district, which has a total outstanding amount of Rs 230.21 crore from 8.52 lakh customers. Additionally, Satara district has an outstanding amount of Rs 27.21 crore from 2.14 lakh customers, Solapur district has an outstanding amount of Rs 54.43 crore from 2.74 lakh customers, Kolhapur district has an outstanding amount of Rs 36.20 crore from 2.45 lakh customers, and Sangli district has an outstanding amount of Rs 28.83 crore from 2.17 lakh customers.

In Western Maharashtra, the largest electricity outage is valued at Rs 241.52 lakh from 15,91,246 domestic consumers, followed by Rs 135.14 crore from 2,10,744 commercial and industrial customers. Consumers can pay bills from the www.mahadiscom.in website or the MSEDCL mobile app. Moreover, MSEDCL offers payment through RTGS or NEFT with bills exceeding Rs. 5,000. The necessary information for this payment method can be found on the electricity bill of the respective customer.
