Visa-free countries woes Indian travellers this winter

Many people intend to celebrate the New Year in Bangkok instead of their usual destination, Goa.

According to residents, the cost of a one-way ticket from Pune to Goa on New Year’s Eve is Rs 18,000, while a round trip would amount to nearly Rs 40,000.

Additionally, when factoring in expenses for accommodation, meals, and local tours within Goa, the total package would sum up to approximately Rs 65,000.

According to travel companies in the city, the number of international travellers has increased due to countries like Thailand and Malaysia offering Indian tourists entry without a visa. Previously, people had to spend a significant amount of money, ranging from Rs 5,000 to Rs 8,000, on visas and also face the hassle of obtaining one.

However, with the new visa-free policy, a family of four can save almost Rs 20,000. The latest rules state that Indians travelling to Thailand are exempt from visa requirements until May 10 next year, and those going to Malaysia can travel without a visa until December next year.

Additionally, Sri Lanka is also allowing Indian tourists to enter without a visa.

As per the information provided, the provision of a complimentary visa has significantly enhanced travel to Thailand. In terms of accommodation, four-star hotels in Thailand offer reasonable rates, ranging from Rs 3,000 to Rs 5,000 per night for two adults, inclusive of taxes and breakfast. While flight prices remain relatively high, they have not experienced a significant increase compared to the previous year.
