Pune News : 53rd Martyrdom Day of Sepoy Pandurang Salunkhe observed in Salunke Vihar society 

53rd Martyrdom Day of Sepoy Pandurang Salunkhe, Mahaveer Chakra was observed today at 9.00am at Veer Salunkhe Memorial located near the main gate.

Army Welfare Co – operative Hsg. Society, Salunke Vihar observed Martyrdom Day in the memory of Late Sepoy Pandurang Salunke of Maratha Regiment , who was awarded  Mahaveer Chakra posthumously for his exceptional bravery in the Indo Pak war. 1971.

Several residents and decorated officers marked their presence at the program organized in Salunke Vihar premises held recently. The General Salute  was presented by the Maratha Regiment.

Pandurang Salunke belonged to the 15 th battalion of the Maratha Light Infantry. He was deployed in Punjab in the Amritsar sector. On December 5 night and 6 and was tasked to liberate some of our area from the Pakistani Army. During the advancement of the anti tank weapons of the Pakistan Army, were firing on our tanks. Seeing this, Pandurang Salunke attacked those tanks with Light Machine Gun. and destroyed the antitank detachment. But in the action, Pandurang got hit fatally due to the Pakistani automatic fire and laid down his life for the nation. This brave act done by the Sepoy Pandurang Salunke he was honoured with  Mahaveer Chakra. This day is commemorated every year at the AWCHSLtd   on December 6.
